LTBK Sault Ste. Marie Community Playground Build
The Location
Etienne Brule is located in the Steelton community and has high exposure to visiting tourists because of its location. Few play areas are available for children in the area. The school itself has no playground.
The Need
The Steelton community has very limited play and recreational areas for children.
The Activity
In one day the volunteers will build a playground and beautify the school
The Impact:

- Establishing a playground, along with the other activities, will meet a school and community need, bringing recreational and play opportunities to children, while improving the quality of life for families in the area.
- Families will choose to remain in neighbourhood. Once parents are able to get a leg up, they will purchase and fix up homes and keep children at Etienne Brule for their elementary careers. This will help eliminate gaps in the learning of children.
- Families will gain a sense of control in their lives. So many of our families feel that other forces control their lives. Making decisions, helping in the construction, and finally having a sense of completion and pride in the playground will hopefully foster this sense of gaining some control.
- Parent participation at Etienne Brule will increase. We know that increased parent involvement increases student achievement in school. We also recognize that not all parents have had pleasant school experiences. Constructing this playground will be a positive partnership between parents and school.
